Hello!

I think we left off in March… the winter kept on giving but
thankfully, we were able to get all of the performances in! Starting
with our beginning concert with the Newport Now60 Group in Atlanta, to
Berklee/ Boston, Pittsburgh, Bethesda, to the Jazz Standard week in NYC,
Philadelphia, Santa Barbara, Disney Hall, Columbia, Springfield & St.
Louis MO, Kansas City, Chicago, East Lansing, Madison and Brookfield
Wisconsin – whew! And what beautiful theaters they all are! I thank all
the presenters at these events for having us, and being such gracious
hosts! As you might imagine, with players like this– the Music did
click right away, but the groove got even deeper as we got to know each
other too. And the bus tour was awesome (thanks to Rick, our driver and
Sam, our amazing tour manager!!) That was my first time on a bonafide/
sleeper bus tour… very comfortable! Now I know how the upper crust
lives on the road!

In between those dates, I was able to get some of my own music in; at
SOKA University in California (that wonderful tribute to Bennie Golson,
among a who’s who of jazz), I taught a masterclass at SUNY Purchase,
played a sweet “Spring duo” with wonderful pianist Pete Malinverni in
Westchester NY. Then onto Omaha at a sweet little venue “The Side Door”.

I was a guest on one of my favorite bass players EVER– Bob Bowman’s new
CD. I’ll keep you posted on when that’s out. Then to Pioneer Valley at
the Clarion/ Loft, also with my friend Cindy Scott who was featured
there. Onto Indianpolis at their very cool cabaret series with Rod, and
then to the Green Mill in Chicago (always a blast) AND our week at
Birdland (always a blast) It’s been a busy and musically gratifying
time….with more to come!!

Also got to see, hear, read, was a part of, and other misc:

Martin Wind’s Tribute to Bill Evan’s at The Kitano with Joe LaBarbera,
Bill Mays and Scott Robinson Terryl Stafford at the Village Vanguard
with Bruce Barth and other greats Kendra Shank and John Stoll at the
Loft in Northampton Anat Cohen at the Village Vanguard Read a few
wonderful books: The Roundhouse by Louise Erdrich The Secret History by
Donna Tartt The New Yorker always (but I have to say, I am not impressed
with the way they’ve started to list jazz events– I don’t think it’s an
improvement! )

Rod and I were featured at Bill McGlaughlin’s / WQZR’s “Bernstein
Immersion” in Chicago. We played “Some Other Time” with bassist Jesse
McQuarters I was featured on Robin Morgan’s radio show (Women’s Media)
“Talk Radio with a Brain!” To be aired June 14 (sat) wmclive.com And we
‘kidnapped’ my Mom for Mother’s Day — my sister Elisa and Bill and I
celebrated with my Mom (Chrystopher) by secretly taking her to a sweet
B&B in Red Wing Minnesota – we had a lovely time.

And, as of this writing, my DEAR friend Dean Hampton signs off as my
webmaster and newsletter-man and all things “E- Karrin” … he’s been
with me for over 20 years and I SO appreciate his guidance, TLC,
dedication and friendship. I love you Dean!! And welcome to my new
web-mistress Mary O’Keefe Thornburg… another dear friend I’ve known for a long
time and has been involved in my career for years… Welcome Mary! These
smart and loving people make all the difference in this life of mine….
THANK YOU BOTH.

We hope to see you out there soon, and thanks as always for your support of the music!

Very Warmly,
Karrin
